EPISODE 3 "SAYING GOODBYE"
BETH(voiceover): I guess life is a constant decision, but there are decisions for which one is never ready.
...........................................................................................................
Upon entering, he saw a beautiful woman dressed in black, waiting for him sitting on a couch ...
MICK (voiceover): Coraline, the woman who was able to disrupt my life, she drove me down a dark road of passion and lies, until I enter into one unknown hell. But, paradoxically, it was she who allowed me to meet Beth. Maybe that's the only reason I cannot hate her. Unfortunately, Coraline has a view somewhat peculiar about life, so, for her it's just a game that she always ends up winning in one way or another, no matter what the cost. She calls it love, I call it selfishness. And now, after starting my relationship with Beth, something tells me she has not come just to congratulate me for this.
Just as he saw her, the beautiful woman stood up to greet him. But the detective did not flinch the slightest by her contact.
Mick: “Wow, Coraline ... Believe me, in these past few hours I've been thinking of you and I do not know why, I had a feeling that you would not be far away. Tell me, have you made a getaway just to pay me a courtesy visit, or have you come to settle some unfinished business?” He asked wryly as he eased from her hug and put some distance between them.
Coraline: “What do you mean?” “She said surprised and offended.
M: "Oh come Coraline! I have to confess that you convinced me the last time, but unfortunately you always leave a trail behind you that ends up with me discovering a frustrating truth." He said again, ironic while he poured the vital fluid into a cup. The detective sat down in front his ex-wife and continued. "I know you killed Morgan Vincent and now your last partner also was found dead in a way... shall we say? ... a bit peculiar. In a way that seems to carry your signature, Coraline." Mick's sarcasm hurt her more than his distrust.
C: “I did not kill Morg ...” But she did not finish the phrase when she noticed the other accusation. "Wait a moment... Partner? What are you talking about?"
M: Mottola, of course.” He said as he leaned comfortably on the back of the sofa. “Had you taken someone else into partnership that I should know about?”
C: “Oh my God… It has already begun.”
M: “Really? What?” He asked the young woman with indifference as he took a sip of his favorite beverage.
C: “We must run away from here.” She begged, kneeling before him. "You have to come with me, you are in danger here. They will come for you and I cannot ... Come! There is no time. We have to leave here.” She pulled on his hand for him to follow her, but Mick didn´t move one inch.
M: I'm not going anywhere until you explain me what this is about. What do you mean by they will come for me? They, who?” His voice sounded more serious now.

C: “The existence of the compound was a secret that shouldn´t have gone out of our circle, the Duvall family. It has been a secret for centuries and it should always be kept a secret. But I broke that agreement when I took the cure and then, I shared it with you.”
M: Really? So, why didn’t Lance kill me when he had the opportunity? Why let me live?”
C: “Your sacrifice will be part of my punishment. Don’t you understand? They have their methods and they are patient. They will not risk their secret being disclosed and thereby lose the supremacy with which they have held so long.”
M: “So ... Why did you take the cure? Why now?” Coraline looked straight into his eyes, then she looked down as if she was considering something that had to be decide, then her eyes met his again. It was time to tell the truth, in a way he would understand.
C: “Lance, with his knowledge of alchemy, isolated various components of the compound, and then, he made them act separately. He discovered that some parts of the compound had a great healing and regenerative power, not just for vampires, but also for humans. But there were other components capable of producing disturbances and even death with a continued use. That's how some members of my clan died. Lance needed humans to test the effect that the compound produced in a long-term, maybe a new reign of terror would came back and the compound would be needed more than expected. We could not take the risk of dying in the attempt. So, he gave me a small sample to continue here with the experiments until I found a cure that was safe and durable.”
M: “Of course!!” He replied in anger. “That´s why you kidnapped Beth and Morgan isn’t it? He said furiously as she looked down one more time. “But Morgan wasn´t lucky and she ended up dead”
C: “No, I did not kill Morgan!” She cried desperately looking for his eyes, begging his understanding. “I just wanted to help her.”
M: Oh Please! Help her? Stop it, ok?” He rose from his chair. “How can you be so cynical, Coraline? She’s dead and you took her place. So, tell me!! Where was your help?”
C: “That's the truth, believe me! When I met Morgan, she was sentenced to death. She had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and there was not time. She could not bear the news and wanted to end it all before that illness consumed her. I confess that when I met her, she was about to kill herself. I felt something that I thought I’d lost a long time ago… compassion. It was like watching myself in a mirror, I saw myself before being turned and ...” Coraline, stood in a moment in silence, holding a lost gaze, as if she were facing the image of her past.

More than three hundred years ago...
“You're nothing but an adulteress, a vulgar prostitute. You have brought dishonor to my house and my name. You will be treated like what you are, a harlot. Soldiers! Take her away from here with the others!”
“No! For goodness sake! Please have mercy!”
“I'll see that you never forget your sin, Coraline. Never!!”

She shuddered and instinctively put her hand on her shoulder touching the fleur de lis. The uncomfortable feeling of fear brought her back to reality.
C: “So ... I decided to make her a deal.”
M: “What kind of deal?”

At that time, at Josef’s new office, he was finalizing instructions.
J: “Well, it's done, a couple of calls and that file will be history. Looking at the list, I'll decide what to do with that later. Now we have to go talk to Mick, but I´m still thinking it will be useless, he will not leave you here alone.”
B: Don´t worry, I´ll convince him, but for now, you go ahead, I´ll see you later at Mick´s home. I have to return to Talbot’s office. You know, I’m supposed to give him a report and I don’t know what he is going to find when he arrives there. Are you sure that there will be no trace that he can follow?”
J: “Absolulety, trust me. The cleaners are the best.” He smiled. “But that guy ... I knew we shouldn’t have saved his life that day! I still think he would be better in one of my tar pits. I don´t know why, but I think this time Mick would agree with me.” He emphasized with a mischievous complicity, to which Beth gave him a slight smile just thinking of Mick's jealousy. “If I let him live knowing what he knows, he could pose a danger to the community.”
B: “I don’t think that he knows anything concrete, he’s just flying blind. Someone is driving him, but why? What for? That's what I have to find out .” She said thoughtfully as she paced back and forth. “I have a hunch, I think Talbot is a pawn in this game, I´m sure of it. If you kill him, someone will put another in his place. Whoever is behind all this seems to have power, and we have to wait and find out who it is.”
J: “Okay, okay ... I guess the grave will have to wait for now. Anyway, I'll be checking him.” He added staring at her with his index finger pointing at her. She smiled again. “You know?” He asked again. “It´s incredible how much you are like Mick. Always making stupid detours and forgetting the short cuts, which are also the most exciting!” He added stretched his fangs. “Well, c `est la vie, maybe another time.” He continued with a sigh of feigned nostalgia. “Anyway, don’t delay, he will want to see you when he knows about all this and I´ll need your help to calm him down.”
B: “Don’t worry, I'll go as soon as possible. Ah! By the way, thanks again for ... help me.” She said, turning around in the doorway. “I´m afraid, I've complicated everything.”
J: “And who said love is simple? Believe me my pretty blonde, when one loves, they are only guilty of one thing, of loving.” And the vampire hinted nostalgia in his eyes. “Come on, we’ll meet at Mick's apartment in ...” He looked nonchalantly at his watch. “A couple of hours?”
B: “Ok, I´ll be there.”

Meanwhile, in Mick’s penthouse ... He was listening with skepticism, to the story that his ex-wife was telling him about of the death of Morgan.
C: “I knew about the healing properties of the compound, so I offered her my help in return for her cooperation.”
“For a time, with Cynthia’s help, we applied the cure and it seemed to work. The tumor began to subside. Meanwhile, she maintained contact with his family by phone and I took her place at work, so nobody noticed anything. But the small sample that Lance had given me was gone. We were so close to getting it ... And ... I ...I only thought of you. I wanted to give you back the life that I had taken away you and start over.” Said the beautiful woman as she gently stroked his face, lowering her gaze to find his lips, seeking a kiss that he didn´t give her.
“So ... I decided to create more of the compound.” She continued speaking while directing her steps towards the large window, with her back towards to him. “When I returned from Europe, Cynthia told me that something was wrong. Morgan had begun to have small hemorrhages suddenly, at that time we did not know why. The truth is that she was weakening more and more and, even with treatment, the transfusions were becoming more frequent. As the tumor was disappearing, the hemorrhages were getting worse and Morgan began to despair. Cynthia, thanks to her studies in biochemistry, managed to isolate the component causing this change, we had to figure out how to neutralize the mixture without losing its curative effect. We made new attempts, we were so close... but that day, accidentally, Morgan saw me turn into a vampire. She didn’t understand and she got scared and fled. When I found her it was too late, she was wounded and had lost too much blood.
And then... you know what happened after that ... She was the one who decided to take her life, not me.”
M: “Yes, I know. But in this story there are too many unanswered questions. Morgan died three months before you showed up in that fire with her identity and her name. If she was dead, why did you continue the charade?”
C: “Because of you, Mick.” She said in a suggestive tone as she walked toward him. I had discovered your relationship with Beth and ... well, I decided to play the game. You know me well enough to know I’d find out.” She said with a mischievous look, while fiddling with the buttons on Mick’s shirt, as she got closer and closer of him.
M: Yeah?” He said as he removed her hands away from him, claiming his space. “That's the problem with you, for you everything is a game. And one way or another, you always end up dragging others into it.” Then, he approached the cold fire that glowed in the center of the room. He stared at it a few seconds and continued. “There is something that you haven’t told me and I still need answers, Coraline. You said you had a deal with Morgan, your help in exchange for her cooperation, but I want to know the why. Why Lance asked you stay here with these experiments? What was it you had to find? Morgan had a very rare blood type, the same as you and Beth, right?” Now he walked toward her again but this time his gaze was angry. “You used Morgan´s blood and now you need Beth´s blood, that's why you came back, you need to get her alone. Isn’t that, right?” He insisted taking her by the arms, demanding an answer.
C: “No, you do not understand, I just want to protect you ... I ... I ... I ...” Suddenly they heard a loud noise and then a piercing scream cut the air. "MIIIIIIIIIIIICK, noooooooo!”
MICK: “And in an instant, everything became dark. Only the distant screams reminded me that I was still alive while only one name was floating in my mind. One name and one beautiful blue gaze, which was gradually fading from my memory... BETH!”

Talbot's office was a real mess. He was desperately trying to find something while firefighters were putting out the last of the flames. But it was useless, nothing remained but ashes, just one old and half-burned photo, which had miraculously escaped the fire, but there was no sign of the rest. The fire had been the only winner and its mark stretched everywhere.
B: “Oh, my God, what's happened?” The young assistant asked when she saw the office had all but been destroyed.
T: “I do not know! I went out just two hours ago and when I came back, everything was destroyed. Firefighters say it could be an electric overload. It's destroyed! The computer, diskettes, files ... Everything is ruined!” He roared tossing debris that remained while he was looking around filled with rage and impotence.
B: “Oh! I´m sorry so much ...Can I help you? Maybe....I don´t know...maybe there is some way to...”
T: “No, I don’t think anyone can do anything for me right now. I'm going home… it’s been a long day. I need to get out of here! We’ll talk tomorrow, ok?” He said looking at her with a strange gaze, almost inquisitive.
B: “But ... ok… whatever you want.” She replied without insisting, after all, he was entitled to be angry. So she said a simple "See you tomorrow."

The meeting with Talbot had been shorter than she had expected, so Beth arrived at her appointment with Josef and Mick before the scheduled time. Standing in front of the building where Mick lived, she made a sweep with her eyes, but there was no sign of Joseph. Maybe he was upstairs with Mick, talking to him about what was happening. So she decided to go up as soon as possible. On the way to the elevator, Beth tried to find the words she wanted to say. The appearance of Morgan Vincent’s corpse had been a bad omen, many bad events had happened after that, but she had the strange feeling that the worst was yet to come. On the other hand, she could not stop thinking about separating from Mick. So she consoled herself by thinking it would only be for a short period time."Yeah, a very short time"
BETH (voiceover): Letting Mick go was the last thing I wanted to do. But unfortunately, sometimes life forces you to choose between what you want and what you should, and I did not have any choice but to stop thinking about the present so I could think about the future. Talbot was too close to finding out the truth. And although the record had been destroyed, it was only a matter of time before he found the evidence of Mick’s past or perhaps something worse, an excuse to put him in jail. So, if I had to choose, I would rather know he was safe away from me, rather than convicted or even possibly die if he stayed with me. At least we could have a chance, but I never thought that saying goodbye was about to happen. A truth that exploded in my face, so hard, so cruel...
The elevator was already reaching its destination, when she felt a strange twinge into her chest, "Mick".

The elevator was already reaching its destination, when she felt a strange twinge into her chest, "Mick".
On leaving the hall, she heard shots from Mick's apartment and ran instinctively to the door, while her heart began to beat with such force that seemed to come out from her chest. As she entered the apartment, Beth had to cling to the door frame to hold herself up from the scene before her. Coraline and Josef were fighting two vampires, but where was Mick? She frantically looked around for him from the door, until she saw him lying on the floor, completely immobile.
B: "My God, Miiiick!” Beth rushed towards the lifeless body of her vampire lover without caring what was happening in the room, even the danger didn’t stop her. The young man's eyes were open, but were completely paralyzed, as if he were dead. She searched his chest for a stake to pull it out as she had on another occasion, but this time there was nothing.
B: “Miiiick! What happened? Tell me, tell me!” Her nervous hands roamed his cold face, shaking him by his shoulders but there was no response. "God, help me please, do not let him die!" She begged and tears streaming down her face as she held him in her arms. “Don´t leave me Mick, please, stay with me please, my love, stay with me!!!PLEASE! SOMEONE HELP ME!” She cried, desperate by the powerlessness of the situation unknown to her, while she continued to cling desperately to him, trying to bring him back to life.

After immobilizing the intruders, Coraline went quickly to where Mick was lying, in Beth’s arms.
J: “Wow! I must admit that you've always liked getting attention, any way you can, but frankly, I think this is a bit too much.” Josef said while he was smoothing out his elegant Armani jacket. “Now, do you want to tell me what the hell happened here? Who were those men and what in the hell have they done to Mick?” Coraline, seemed not to hear, she was kneeling next to Mick, in front of Beth, as she nervous touched the unconscious body of the young vampire, as if searching for something, while Beth looked at her puzzled. Finally, Coraline pulled something out of Mick’s neck that looked like a small dart.
C: "Silver!" She exclaimed when she brought the dart toward her nose and inhaled its scent. “We have no time to lose. I have to take him out of here before the poison spreads.”
B: Poison? My God!” She froze, and could not believe what was happening. “But what ....or ...who ..?”
C: “It's a long story, the main thing now is to get him to a safe place.” Coraline said glancing at the bewildered young woman. "Josef, please, help me, we have to remove him from here!”
B: “No! Wait! How do I know this is not just another one of your tricks? It would not be the first time that you put him at risk to get what you want.”
C: “Believe it or not, he is the only person I ever loved. I've gone and returned from the same hell for him and believe me, I would do it again if was necessary." Both women were face to face, there was a strange tension between them, both were rivals in a fight for love, but it was his life which was now at stake. "Now you can let him stay here with you and watch him die or leave him in my hands alive .... You decide.”
BETH (voiceover): But how can I decide!? How can I choose between letting him stay with a woman who has manipulated and destroyed his life, or see him die in my arms? How can I believe you after all the lies you’ve told Coraline? Her crazy mind had already demonstrated to me that she would do anything to satisfy her desires. But on the other hand, I could not let him die, every second was like a breath of life lost and there was not time to think.

“I know, I never loved this way before and no one else loved me more, with you I´ve laughed and cried, I´ve lived and died. What I wouldn´t do just to be with you…? I know I must forget you to go on but I can´t hold my tears too long. Though life won´t be the same, I´ve got to take the blame and find the strength I need to let you go. There´ll never be a moment I ´ll regret , I loved you since the day we met, for all the love you gave and all the love we made but I know I mustn´t fall apart or show my broken heart I´ve got to find the strength to say goodbye”.
(based in “Just walk away”)
Beth stared at Coraline’s eyes, trying to decide what lay behind her icy gaze. Then she looked at Josef, desperately looking for an answer. Finally she turned her eyes to the young man lying on the floor, in her arms. She gently caresses his cold face and kissed him softly on the lips as tears began to flow from her eyes. "Forgive me, my angel, forgive me. Maybe in another time, in another place." She whispered against his lips and kissed him again. The words were like daggers that pierced her heart while her very soul was split in two. "I love you Mick and I will wait for you forever.” She said, stroking his lips with hers. When Beth spoke those words, a tear slid slowly down the face of the vampire and her will suddenly broke, and Beth knew she had to let him go. Beth wiped away the tears with her hands as she swallowing her sorrow and stood up and went to Josef.
B: “I trust you, Josef.” She said glancing at Coraline who had backed up a few steps. Joseph closed his eyes and nodded as he approached Beth. Her eyes were like a sea of sadness about to overflow. Then, tenderly, he kissed her forehead.
J: “I'm sorry, Beth, really sorry.” Beth closed her eyes when Josef’s cool lips touched her forehead, while he whispered: "Don’t worry we'll be in touch."
Then, there was a terrible silence. She opened her eyes and found herself alone. For the first time in 23 years, she was terribly and inconsolably ALONE.
