EPISODE 1 "SECRETS"
BETH: The truth is not always obvious, sometimes you have to dare to go further to find out where the true lies.
Finally, the agent delivered him the file and he left. Upon hearing that name, a chill ran through her body. Beth did not know whether to feel relieved or frightened. Had he said Morgan Vincent? Yes, she was sure she had heard correctly, but Morgan was Coraline! How could the body of a vampire appear just like that, and worse, who could have killed her? And why?
Then she remembered the image at the cemetery, when Mick had turned to human and he said to her. "Coraline is gone, it was meant to work out, never was." What if he had killed her? No... He couldn´t have. The last time she watched Coraline at Mick´s apartment, she seemed to seek his protection, she was running from something or someone. What if she had become human again and now she was dead?
T- "Well, don’t just stand there, come in and sit down!" Talbot said in a tone impatient and aggressive, taking her away from her thoughts, but she had to try to stay calm and to wait to know what Talbot had to say to her.
B- “Oh! Sorry but ...well, when I came in I thought I heard a name. Is it about the new case?”
T- “Oh yeah, it's about our latest find, Morgan Vincent," He said placing the report on the table to hide the other folder. "Wow, you look really impressed with that." He commented when he saw that she looked completely pale. "Did you know her?” He asked with mistrust.
B- Beth doubted if she should answer that question, but finally decided to tell the truth, before Talbot found it out on his own. “Well ... I did do some work with her when I was at BuzzWire ... But ... what has happened?" She asked him, trying to divert the question.
T- “It seems that her body was found in an abandoned well a few miles from the city. The Judicial Police have already sent a report about the place and the circumstances in which the body was found. In principle, the cause of death was an accidental drowning.”
B- “A drowning?” But that meant that she had become human again. And what for? After all, she was back to being human only to end up dead ...but it sounded too strange, even from Coraline. Actually at that time, Beth's face was the picture of confusion. Suddenly, her instincts as a reporter turned on an alarm about a word said by Talbot. “What do you mean by "in principle"? Do you think there may be something else?”
T- “Well, we have to wait to read the coroner's report. Meanwhile, go to morgue to see if there is anything new and also find out everything you can about her life, friends, and habits. It never hurts to have the work done , maybe it can help later.”
B- “Ok, but I thought I heard that there were more corpses?”
T- “Yes, yes, but that does not matter, that was only an accident.” Suddenly, Talbot looked nervous while he commented. “It turns out that the driver had too much to drink and plunged into a ravine, the fire has consumed virtually everything. Anyway, go to Morgue to see if there is something new about that body and Morgan Vincent. Ok?”
B- “Ok...Do you need anything else?” She said with a sarcastic tone. Talbot quickly grasped the message.
B- “I'm sorry, maybe I was too harsh on the phone and even now, but I've had a very eventful night. As you know, Emma Monaghan has mysteriously disappeared and there is no way of knowing what happened. It seems that there was an accident, but when the ambulance arrived, there was no sign of her.”
B- “Maybe she fled in the confusion.”
T- “No, I don’t think so. She was chained and one of the officers who was guarding her, ensures me that she seemed ill, for that reason they decided to turn around but they never arrived, someone intercepted them. I'm sure that someone helped her to escape.” He said as he stared at the hidden folder on his desk. “Anyway, I need you to take care of this, please.” His tone was more relaxed, almost pleading as he handed her the file about Morgan Vincent. “I need to close one case at least. Lately it seems that everything is left unfinished and that’s something that drives me crazy.” And at that moment, his expression was of dismay and frustration.
B- “Okay, I´ll see what can I do.” She said as she stood up looking at him with some anxiety. Talbot would not be as easily convinced as Josh. However, at this moment he seemed so downcast that she could not avoid a look of compassion and a sense of guilt when she leaving the office.
Talbot opened the folder again that held the name Mick St John. He noticed that the list had several names crossed out, including Monaghan. Perhaps Emma Monaghan would not be a problem after all. However, it would be better to investigate all the names on this list by himself and see what he could find out. At that time, fatigue overcame him and he fell asleep.
Then, a fleeting memory came to his mind

.............::*&*::............
Little Ben got up from bed to hear a noise coming from the room of his sister Anne. He'd heard it before, since Anne became sick, but this time decided to get up to see what was happening. He crept stealthily to the door and then he saw it.
A tall, dark silhouette was standing beside the bed watching the little girl, who was sleeping. She was breathing heavily. In an instant, the figure turned, looking to where Ben was hiding. His pale face was cruel and terrifying, he scarcely saw his face because he had covered his face with his hands, scared to death. Then he heard a deep voice that told him mockingly. "Go to sleep little boy if you don´t want the darkness to make you disappear ... ha, ha, ha.” The boy fled in terror and he got into bed, huddled between the blankets, completely terrified.
Talbot was drenched in sweat and kept repeating "No, don’t touch her!” Then the intercom rang and Talbot abruptly left his dream. Still stunned by that sight so real, he rubbed his face as wanting it out of his sight and his mind and he replied: “Yeah?”
A- “You have a call from BuzzWire.”
T- “Okay, I'll take it on my private line, thanks.”

On the way to the morgue, Beth could not stop thinking about the subject of Morgan. Maybe I should call Mick and alert him about this. She thought, but on the other hand, she preferred to be sure that all this was real and not an incredible coincidence. The last time Coraline appeared, Mick went crazy, she led him into her trap, and now, dead or not, Beth was not sure what effects she would have on him. This woman exercised a strange influence on Mick, she could not understand, but all this caused her and gave her unpleasant feeling of insecurity.

In an abandoned road on the outskirts of the city a young woman was running desperately, her dark hair was matted and it was covering almost all of her face. Her bare feet were full of bruises and a tattered nightgown was her only clothing. "God, give me strength to escape or...to die ", she pleaded while she was about to faint and she made a last effort to go on. In her escape, she tripped and she cut her hands and legs with a broken glass bottle. At first, the wounds did not appear serious, but it started bleeding abundantly. The woman rose with almost superhuman effort and she went on, stumbling, trying to find help.
...........................................................................................................
Beth remained completely still for a few seconds. She was in front of the door, behind which she was to meet again face to face with the memory of her past and the terrible uncertainty of her future. She would have loved to be near to Mick at that time, feel the force of his arms around her body, making her feel completely safe. However, this time she had to do it alone, she needed to confirm with her own eyes that Coraline couldn´t return, she prayed for this while she put her hand on the doorknob of the autopsy room, then she took a deep breath and opened the door with determination.
...........................................................................................................
Meanwhile...At Penthouse of Mick...
Mick had just awakened from his cold rest. A strange sense of anguish was weighing on his chest. He decided to go find Beth, maybe she needed his help. He took a quick shower, dressed impeccably as ever and while he was taking his usual breakfast, he recalled that he had not given Beth a copy of the magnetic card to enter the penthouse with. This might be a good excuse to see her and check that everything was fine, so he went out to meet her.

...........................................................................................................
Two hours after Beth left the autopsy room she was still as confused as she was when she’d first entered. It was as if time had stood still for her. Suddenly, the sound of her phone pulled her out of her daze. The information that she was expecting, had just arrived. When she checked the message, a chill ran down her spine. It was obvious that this woman was not Coraline, or so the coroner said. It was more than likely that she had something to do with the death, maybe directly or indirectly. "My God, she thought, I hope Mick was right when he told me that she was gone! She cannot come back... but that woman is capable of anything!" She said as she looked stunned by the information that Sam, her computer friend, had sent her.
At that time, she felt a slight tingling in the back of her neck and Beth turned round, uttering a cry:
B: “Mick! You scared me half to death!”
M: “Oh ... Sorry. “ He apologized, a bit puzzled by the strong reaction of the girl. “It just was a joke” he said as he raised his hand, showing the Penthouse´s magnetic card. She saw the card as a peace offering and she could not help but give him a slight smile, then she threw herself into his arms with a sudden impulse, leaving him more baffled still.
B: “Hold me! Hold me tight!” She said, clinging to his body as if her life depended on it. He held her close, stroking her tenderly and for one moment, he thought he had in his arms the little girl that he saved from the folly of his ex-wife, 23 years ago.
M: “What ... what happened?” he asked in a tone of concern as he felt her trembling in his arms.
B: “Something horrible!” she exclaimed pressing against his chest, and then, looking up into his eyes, added. "The body of Morgan Vincent has appeared."
M: “Coraline...?!" Muttered the young vampire in a mixture of disbelief and sadness. Then, instinctively, Beth moved away from him. She had detected a hint of nostalgia in his voice when he said the name, and it annoyed her.
B: “No, it’s not Coraline. It’s MORGAN VINCENT, the real Morgan Vincent.” Mick looked at her puzzled. “Don’t you understand? Morgan Vincent wasn’t a made up person, she was real!!”
M: “And ... why would Coraline take the identity of a real person, risking to be discovered?”
B: “I don´t know, you tell me” She said to him while she showed him a photo stored on her Iphone. Mick could not believe what he was looking at. The resemblance between the two women, Morgan and Coraline was incredible. “Maybe for some reason, Coraline killed her and then took her place. She did it to get close to you, playing a human with a real past, a past that we would find out about, of course.” She replied dryly. “She had everything planned.”
Mick noticed at that time that they were in the middle of the street, and that anyone could hear them. So he suggested they go to a more discreet place.

“Leave me. You're nothing but a monster. You tricked me, you said that you would help me, but you just used me for your damn experiments. Look at me! Look what you've done to me!” she shouted desperately, showing her wounds while the flowing blood was forming a puddle at the woman’s feet. Coraline looked at the puddle like it was a most precious treasure, and then, looking at the girl with a haughty expression in her face, she replied. “I helped you Morgan. You are alive, right? And now you are what you always wanted to be, a prestigious photographer.”
“Don’t be cynical! You're the photographer, I don’t even have the strength to hold the camera. I'm tired of waiting for something that I will never happen! I just want to rest.”
Then, her strength failed her by the effort and the loss of blood and she fainted, falling into the pit, which was hidden by the leaves, next to her feet.

...........................................................................................................
Already in the Penthouse, Mick brought Beth a cup of tea to calm her down. Then he knelt before her, looking at her with a sweet gaze when he said to her.
M: “Okay, tell me what the coroner said.”
B: “Well, in principle, it seems it was an accident. She was running, tripped, she cut herself on a glass, slipped, and fell into the pit.” She took a sip of the drink and then she held the hot cup with both hands.
M: "And ... Why are you so sure that she is not Coraline?" He asked her, thinking maybe his ex-wife had escaped from Lance and she had taken refuge in her human form to go unnoticed to her hunter.
B: “Because according to the coroner, that woman died three months ago.”
M: “Even so, maybe Coraline had nothing to do with her death.”
B: “Really ...?” She asked in an ironic tone, while she raised her eyebrow. “There are certain things we know about your dear ex-wife, that make me think otherwise. Look, Morgan had lost a lot of blood before falling into the water. It seems that she had trouble with her blood clotting. Hemophilia is an inherited disease that rarely hurts women. It’s a disease that, curiously enough, she did not have before she came to LA. Oh!! And there is something else...Guess what her blood type is?”
M: “A 0 -.” Concluded the detective.
B: “Exactly! Isn’t that a bit strange to you? I think Coraline used Morgan for her experiments with the cure and then she decided to get rid of her and take her place to get to you. Don´t you see that? My God, this woman is capable of anything! Who knows what she's plotting now!” Mick stood up and began to rock from side to side, running a hand through his hair. Then he knelt back down in front of Beth and starred at her beautiful eyes.
M: “I honestly don’t think that she is plotting anything at the moment. When Coraline offered me the mortal cure, she betrayed her family and ... Well, surely she’s dead now.”
B: “Really? Ok, that´s the best thing for us all. Don´t you think?” Beth suddenly rose up in anger, her back to him.
Mick also got up. He turned her toward him, taking her gently by the arms, searching her eyes. He wanted make sure she understood what he was saying.
M: “No, Beth. I know that Coraline has never had limits about getting what she wants. But ... but the last time I saw her...I don´t know...I think something had changed in her.”
B: “I cannot believe that! She always ends up convincing you otherwise! Right?” Beth shouted in the jealous rage.
M: “No Beth, it´s not true, but that night, she ...” And for a moment, Mick recalled the look on Coraline’s face, when Lance took her. “She was taken because she was protecting me. Lance would have killed me and she prevented it.”
B: “Yes ... of course.” Beth said with a skeptical tone. “You know what? I think I should go.” she said that while her hand was resting on the handle of the door. Mick couldn’t help the terrible feeling of helplessness, the void that was coming between them at that moment, it was unbearable for him. He felt awkward because he couldn’t make Beth see that his feelings for Coraline were just nostalgia, that they were feelings that a friend feels for another. She had been a part of his life that was over and that it belonged in the past. Beth, nervously, tried to open the door but she couldn’t. Then she felt his breath on her hair, while one of his hands was keeping the door closed.
M: "No Beth, don´t go ..." It wasn’t an order, it was just a desperate plea, but so sensual, so sweet ... that it was irresistible for her. "Stay" He begged her again, inhaling the delicious scent of her hair while his hand slid form her arm to her waist, making her feel his nearness, so tempting, so intoxicating and she had to fight to keep herself from falling into him. "Please Stay ..."
M: “Okay, tell me what the coroner said.”
B: “Well, in principle, it seems it was an accident. She was running, tripped, she cut herself on a glass, slipped, and fell into the pit.” She took a sip of the drink and then she held the hot cup with both hands.

But her resistance was about to fail when she felt his arm, strong and powerful, encircling her waist, turning her to him. "Please" He whispered in her ear, pleading. And she was defenseless when she saw the desperation and fear in his eyes at the thought of losing her. Beth stared up at him, at those pleading eyes and she could see the pain he felt. Then she raised his hand and gently stroked the face of the vampire with great tenderness, her lips came slowly to him to melt into a passionate kiss.

At that time, at the Office of the Attorney
Talbot hung up the phone angrily. "It serves me right for trusting scum like that offender. I should have known that Foster would disappear at the first opportunity without keeping our deal." Then he remembered the last phone conversation he had with the controversial photographer, 20 days ago.
T: “Did you find anything on Saint John?”
D.F: “Anything? I think I've found everything. Wait and see. I’ll send you one part of the information now, and you’ll get the other part when you have fulfilled the promise.”
Talbot opened his folder again and observed the pictures for the umpteenth time, scrutinizing every detail. "Sooner or later I'll find out". He closed it abruptly and tossed the folder into a drawer. Then he took out an old picture that was resting at the bottom, and stroked it with nostalgia. “My little Anne. Where can you be?”

Hundreds of miles away, in a dark room, two men was finalizing details.
“Did you bring what I asked you for?”
“Yes, everything has been taken care of just as you ordered, sire.”
“Perfect.”
“But why him? He is not one of us.”
“Don’t worry, he’ll cooperate. He has a score to settle with the vampires, he just doesn’t know it yet. Just leave it to me to touch the right buttons and he will do everything we want him to.” The man said softly as he turned his eyes to a silky bed where a young woman with delicate features and extremely pale skin, rested, lost in a kind of torpor.
